Born in the Ukraine, Dr. Korzeniowski settled with her family in Philadelphia in 1952, graduating from the Philadelphia High School for Girls and the University of Pennsylvania. She earned her M.D. from the University of Rochester in 1971. A specialist in infectious diseases, Dr. Korzeniowski joined the Medical College of Pennsylvania faculty in 1979, serving as Professor of Medicine in the College and at MCP Hahnemann University. She was elected to four terms as Chief of the Medical/Dental Staff. A favorite of students, residents, and patients, she received numerous awards for teaching, including the Golden Apple Award (1987, 1994), the Lindback Award (1988) and the Harry Gottlieb Award (2000).
