Chevalier Jackson was born in 1865 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Western Reserve University and later, in 1886, received the degree of Doctor of Medicine from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia. During his brilliant and renowned career, he served on the faculty of each of the five Philadelphia medical schools. For many years he headed the Department of Otolaryngology at Temple University Medical School, where his research won worldwide recognition.
From 1924 until 1934 he was special lecturer in laryngoscopy, bronchoscopy, and esophagoscopy, and was, until 1940, Professor of Bronchoscopy at the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania. He served as President of the College from 1935 until 1941. In 1950, he was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science by the College, one of many honors conferred on him throughout the world.
