A native of Georgia, Mollie A. Geiss entered the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. After receiving her M.D. degree in 1919, she came to Philadelphia to serve her internship at the Woman’s Hospital of Philadelphia and joined the faculty of the Woman’s Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1922.
A beloved pillar of the College, she taught in the departments of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology, settling finally in pathology, where she rose to the rank of Professor, serving from 1945 to 1955. Dr. Geiss had an intense interest in teaching and in the clinical application of medical knowledge. After retiring from the Chairmanship of Pathology in 1955, Dr. Geiss joined the Department of Radiology, where she carried on a teaching program for students, interns and residents. The College awarded her the honorary degree of Doctor of Science in 1955.
