Sarah Drexel Van Rensselaer (1860-1929) was the daughter of Anthony J. Drexel. She was the third eldest of nine children and one of five daughters and one of his most confident and forceful children. She married Alexander Van Rensselaer on January 27, 1898 and together helped found the Phialdelphia Orchestra in 1900 and presided over Philadelphia society. She is the mother of Amanda Fell Cassatt from a previous marriage to John R. Fell (d. 1895) in 1879.
