Dr. Kitchen was a University of Pennsylvania graduate and noted physician who became an active supporter of homeopathy and helped to establish the Homeopathic Medical College, later known as Hahnemann Medical College. He learned about homeopathy when visiting Paris in the 1820s. His hand-written notes on lectures of Rene Laennec, inventor of the stethoscope, are among the treasures of the Archives and Special Collections. Dr. Kitchen was a loyal supporter of the College, serving on its Board of Corporators. He was also a founder of the American Institute of Homeopathy.
