This portrait is dedicated on November 29, 2011 for his visionary leadership and unwavering support of Drexel University College of Medicine.
Mr. Stamatakis has been a tireless leader of the College of Medicine since the college became part of Drexel University. Along with the late Constantine Papadakis, Manny had the vision to engage Drexel University in the plight of the Allegheny health system in 1998, and was a lead negotiator in crafting the agreement between the University and Tenet Healthcare to rescue Allegheny’s schools and hospitals, saving more than 13,000 jobs for Greater Philadelphia.
As founding Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he brought his considerable strategic skills and business acumen to the task of restoring our historic school to financial health. Under Mr. Stamatakis’ leadership, Drexel University College of Medicine became an important regional and national resource, educating one in every 71 new doctors in America, and supporting clinical and research enterprises.
We are grateful for his foresight, wisdom and leadership in establishing a medical school at Drexel University.
