Swiss artist Simon Durand depicts a narrow-cobbled street bordered by tall buildings with the church at the right, the buildings in the middle distance reflecting a warm sunlight with red roofs and a bell tower outlined against a blue sky. Elegantly dressed figures descend from cabs in the foreground and follow the bride passing into the church before a group of spectators. The textures created by the short brushstrokes are common in Durand’s paintings as well as the depiction of a crowd in various styles of dress.
