These vases are full of Chinese imagery: cranes, dragons, chrysanthemum, hibiscus and maple leaves, each of which have specific meanings such as a wish to become an official in a higher office, a motif for longevity and good health or a symbol for fame and fortune. But for the European market, they were most likely purely decorative.
