Toshiko Takaezu was a Japanese American artist that found fame with her abstract ceramic sculptures. Her personal style was molded by her Japa- nese heritage and her western upbringing. She fused the two together to create organic sculptures that expanded past functional use and became pieces of symbolism. She saw art as a form of self-expression and wanted others to see art in that way. "It is so gratifying and I get so much joy from it, and it gives me many answers in my life."
