Designs for porcelain dishes became more and more specialized through the 19 th
century. Here you will see a few of the specialized dishes in Napoleon III’s service,
including the relish dish (left) and sauce boat (right), as well as the underliner in the
back that was used under a bowl or jug, much like a saucer under a teacup.
