Jasperware, colored-body stoneware, was developed in England by Josiah Wedgwood in 1774. The white applied decoration, using a technique developed at the Sèvres Factory called pâte-sur-pâte, typically depicts classical scenes with draped figures, urns and columns, which was perfectly in-tune with the Neo-classical movement of the period.
