These Tanagra figurines reveal the popularity of the “melon coiffure” hairstyle. Fashionable in Greece after 350 BCE, the melon coiffure consisted of hair parted in rows, braided, and pulled back. Hairstyling was an essential part of the fashion of Greek women because of its importance in ritual ceremonies, as well as personal lives of young brides.
