The Chimú culture (c. 1100–1500) was based in the northern coastal valleys of Peru. The pottery of the Chimú is generally molded monochrome gray, black or red with a burnished surface decorated with geometric designs or modeled zoomorphic or anthropomorphic forms such as the monkey encircling the spout on this jug.
