November 3, 1980. Letter from Kathleen Goddard Jones to Tom Griggs. Kathleen mentions a conversation with Dr.Dirk Walters and discusses how they came to the conclusion that the Dunes Lake does not qualify as a land of prime biological quality due to the interference of man in the natural geography and ecosystems. Instead Kathleen and Dr.Walters propose southeast of Oso Flaco lake, beginning with Coreopsis Hill and extending through the dunes to the Leroy Lease of Union Oil's active oil drilling field is where there is prime biological quality worth preserving and protecting,
