The collection consists of five letterpress copybooks, a black ledger, and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings. Three of the letterpress copybooks include business correspondence of Adriance, Platt & Co. from 1894-1910. These letters are sometimes signed by John E. Adriance or Albert Glass and concern prices, orders, affairs of their foreign offices in Germany, England, Russia, and France, personnel, labor practices, union agitation, machine design, expansion into other products, and proposed insurance and corporation taxes.
Two letterpress copybooks are from John E. Adriance and primarily concern the business matters of Adriance, Platt & Co. This includes correspondence concerning personnel, financial transactions, and foreign markets and competitors from 1891 until 1904. Material also concerns personal matters such as the Adriance family’s health, decoration of their home, items ordered, stamp collecting, and social organizations.
Also included is a scrapbook of clippings on polo matches, obituaries, programs, and the wedding notice of John E. Adriance and Mary Hasbrouck.Publication Details
