Untitled (11 O'Clock) [1867]

Untitled ("11 O'Clock"): View of a reclining cow, with its head laying on the ground, resting. The cow's body is in profile toward the right, while its turned head faces in profile toward the left. Above its upper back is the suggestion of another form through a pencil marking, and below the lower leg, there is the suggestion of an earlier version of a hoof. Along the cow's body are numbers that correspond to notes made in the lower section of the paper that detail the coloring of the cow. In the head, there is an x, 2, and another symbol. On the upper neck is another x, while the tail includes a 1. The bottom section of writing reads: "11 o'clock, March 30th 1867 / x paint of highest light / 1 orange tint, where the hair parts / 2, here the red, fades into a (?) - The red very dark".
