Landscape view of a body of water, with trees, a field, and a woman sitting in a boat. In the left section of the foreground is water, and in the right is vegetation. In the middle ground on the right is a woman sitting in a small boat. In the left are reeds and vegetation. On the right in the background is a small hill with a large mossy tree that is angled diagonally to the left, over the center of the page. This hill slopes downward toward the left. To the left of this tree is either a grassy field or another section of water with more trees at the horizon line. In the lower right corner of the composition, "Carrie M. Clowes March (?) 15 1853" is written diagonally, facing upwards.
