In the central part of the middle ground are the sheep, with the two on the left, one an adult and the other a lamb, reclining in profile toward the right with their eyes closed. On the right are two more sheep, again an adult and a lamb. The adult stands angled slightly away from the viewer toward the right, with its head angled slightly toward the viewer. The lamb at its feet also faces right, yet reclines on the ground. To the left of the sheep, and slightly behind them, are two chickens. The leftmost chicken is angled toward the ground to peck. The chicken to the right is mostly obscured by the reclining sheep, yet is facing to the left in profile. This chicken may be a rooster. In the background are a trough, the wooden slats of the structure, and hay that makes up the roof.
