I - No. I DIRECTORS, DELEGATES MEET IN WESTFIELD, RE-ELECT was elected as president Lawton Named Vice President-Sales and Marketing General Foods Corporation in 1948. Within a year he was promoted to assistant sales manager of General Foods Minute Division and later shifted to brand work in the Jell-0 Division. From 1954 to 1957 he was an ac count executive with Paris & Pearl Ad vertising, Inc. In 1957 he became vice president and account supervisor with Kenyon & Eckhardt, Inc., where he directed the marketing of the first com plete "meal-in-a-glass," and the first "boil-in-the-bag" frozen food product. A Hinsdale, Illinois native, Mr. Law ton attended public schools in Daven port, Iowa. He holds degrees in busi ness administration and law from the University of Iowa and is a member of the Iowa Bar Association. He also attended Harvard Business School. During World War II Mr. Lawton served as an officer in the U.S. Navy. He is married to the former Elaine L. Swedbcrg of Rock Island, Illinois and they have two children: Thomas, 16 and Nancy, 14. Elections, committee appointments, delegates' reports and a discussion of proposed capital improvements high lighted the busy two-day session of the recently held annual delegates and directors meeting in Westfield. ELECTIONS Douglas M. Moorhead to his 17th consecutive term of National at the meeting. He was first elected president of Na tional in 1950 when he succeeded Hall Clothier, National's first president. Also elected to office were: Harold W. Buchholz, first vice president; John H. Marble, second vice president; Merle R. Stemm, third vice president; S. Elwin Keech, treasurer; Don R. Gagliano, Secretary; George A. Sloss, assistant treasurer; Joseph D. Riley, assistant secretary. (Shown in photograph, right) Elected to the executive committee: Douglas M. Moorhead, Harold W. The surname Lampson appears to be patronymical in origin, and is believed to be associated with the English, meaning, "the son of Lam, a pet form of Lambert (land, bright)." Documentation for the Lampson Coat of Arms design can be found in Burke's General Armory. Heraldic artists of old developed their own unique language to describe an individual Coat of Arms. In their language, the Arms (shield) is as follows: "Per saltire ar. and gu. two gryphons' heads erased in fesse and as many escarbuncles in pale counterchanged." When translated the Arms description is: "Quartered diagonally of silver and red: two griffins' heads, jagged and placed horizontally, and two carbuncles placed one over the other, counterchanged." Above the shield and helmet is the Crest which is described as: "A gryphon's head erased gu. charged with an escarbuncle ar. two wings paly of four ar. and gu." A translation of the Crest description is: "A red griffin's head, jagged, charged with a silver carbuncle, between two wings, divided into four vertical bands of silver and red." Incidentally, fellows, don’t forget to Ml RnfJier Late To Change if Benton County Commissioner Walt Jacobs is trying to make polit ical hay out of the one unit road sys tem, it’s apparent he will get no help from Commissioner Frank Lampson. Lampson has fought for consolida tion of road districts for three years and Jacbos is the one who dragged his feet on it. The reason Lampson wants the present system consolidated is because he believes, as an engi neer’s study showed, that it will save the county at least $100,000 yearly in duplication and waste. Now Jacobs is trying to make, it appear that he’s for consolidation and the other two commissioners won’t go for it. This is the picture he tried to paint when he and Lampson spoke An Open Letter To Commissioners ■/ Thursday at a forum of the League of Women Voters. Commissioner Lampson- replied to Jacobs’ charge and told the forum he still favors consolidation, but he will not vote for it now. He pointed out that the elections are not far off . He and Jacobs must run and they may not be on the new board next year, Lampson pointed out. The de cision should be made by the new board, in his opinion. We also believe that Lampson sees that Walt Jacobs may be trying to win votes by jumping on the consoli dation bandwagon after opposing it for three years. Lampson Opposes Funds For Priest Rapids Roads If Yakima County commis sioners want to go ahead and improve the roads in and around the Priest Rapids Dam site, they are welcome to do so. But Benton County commis sioners are not about to foot any part of the bill for such a project. That was the opinion given Friday night by Frank Lamp- son, of Kennewick, chairman of the Benton Comity Commis sion, in answer to a recent Yakima Herald editorial. The editorial criticized the Benton County commission for its refusal to pay part of the costs for improving the roads leading to and from the dam site. “There are approximately seven miles of bad road around , the Priest Rapids site,” said Lampson. “Half of the road, at least, is in Benton County. Kennewick, chairman of the board of Benton County Commissioners; has filed for reelection to the District 3 commissioner post. Lampson has served one term. He came to the Kennewick area in 1930 from Goldendale. Since that time has farmed near Kenne wick. He served on the Kennewick Ir rigation District board for 12 years and served the board as chairman for several years. He is a former member of the East Benton County Soil Conservation board, is a charter member of the Kennewick Highlands Grange, and a member ol Benton County Po mona Grange. He was reelected at the Ken newick and Grandview annual district meetings held last week at the Highlands Grange Hall, Kennewick, and the Waneta Grange Hall, Waneta. Lampson, who joined Na tional Grape Co-operative in 1953, was a director from 1954 to 1957 and has currently served since 1961. He is a past direc tor and past chairman of the Kennewick Irrigation District; and a member and past master of the Kennewick Highlands Grange. He is also a member and past president of the Farm Bureau and a member of the Western Farmers Association. Lonnie Conner of Pasco was elected to a three-year term as delegate from the co-opera tive’s Kennewick district. John Wilson was elected to a one- year term as alternate dele gate.
