Description

Quilt, Rose of Sharon pattern, applique, red, green, white and double pink cotton fabirc, handsewn, 4 blocks, 6.5-7" cotton border on four sides, front-to-back binding, heavy cotton backing, 8 stitches/inch cotton thread, cotton batting, echo quilting--triple in veins, echo quilting in flowers, ecgi border, square corners, Knox County, c.1860 (donor file says c.1827). Knoxville quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel said "This applique block (plumes and roses ) shows up frequently in TN, NC, and KY 19th c. quilts."
