Tall chest of drawers (nine total), walnut with cherry- and light-wood inlay/tulip poplar (secondary wood), molded cornice with scallop-carved molding above top three drawers, drawers have string inlay with quarter-circle inlay of cherry inset into corners of light wood inlay, chamfered corners (with lambs tongue top and bottom) have bamboo-type inlay two-thirds from bottom with vine-and-leaf inlay above, ogee-type feet, original brasses except for three, dovetailed case, all original except for finish and possible glue blocks, unclear inscription right side top drawer, some markings (maker's markings) in red carpenter's pencil, made in Greene County, c. 1810-1820 [c. 1800 on gallery text].
Provenance:
Original owner reported to be Valentine Sevier (1780-1854, Greeneville), brother of John Sevier, whose first wife was Mary Dinwiddie (1786-1844). The Dinwiddies were prominent in Greene County from time of settlement, and the piece descended in that family.Dimensions
