a) Pictorial 9-11 commemorative quilt named "Rising from the Rubble," mostly cotton/hand dyed and hand painted except for beads, pieced and appliqued, machine quilted, depicts the ruins (l to r) in Shanksville, Pennsylvania field/scarred Pentagon in Washington, DC/crumbled World Trade Center in New York City, glass beading in the blue sky represents the souls of those who perished, triple-pieced jagged and uneven border depicts the shock and anger of the country/world, green represents trees/netting mimics building rubble, 43"h x 64"w. Hanging sleeve.
b-e) Four dark butterflies with burnt edges represent four airliners that crashed, stitched and stiffened, attached with Velcro that is color coded and oriented with matching strip on quilt (blue goes head down under "trees" on left, yellow goes heads up under Pentagon at center, red and white go heads up under World Trade Center at right).
NOTE: When displayed, the maker would prefer that the butterflies have a little curvature to their wings rather than be flat.Collection
