Description

Quilt top with floral applique [called Rose of Sharon by the family], cotton fabric in pink (originally red)/green/green print, cotton thread, constructed by hand, whip stitching, unquilted, 94" x 90", c. 1850s. Folk art feel. Vase is interesting /scalloped. Applique bud is interesting - unusual construction - pieced. This quilt top has not been accessioned into the ETHS artifact collection because its condition neither allows it to be exhibited nor restored. It will be available for historical documentation and possible scholarly research.
