Quilt in the Crown of Thorns pattern (also known in Tennessee as Rising Sun); all cotton fabrics in red and beige (thought to be originally green) on an off-white background; pieced; cotton batting; quilted and bound by hand, quilting is grape vine with leaves and fruit (in the off-white background) and by the piece (around designs); 1870s-1880s based on pattern, color and fading of green to beige.
