Quilt in a string star pattern made by Elizabeth Shields, "1915" embroidered in white on the diagonal in one corner, palette of blue prints, maroon, gray, red, stripes, and gingham check; blue-and-white print was popular for women's shirt-waist dress, long sleeves and long skirts, one of gray fabrics appears to be linen (hand woven?) perhaps tow from making sacks; black fabric is mourning cloth pieced by hand, quilted by hand with coarse boss ball thread (purchased, sold commercially, not expensive); muslin backing with machine stitching at the center; binding by hand, back-to-front.; cotton batting; appears to have been used and washed, 72"l x 58"w.
