Cotton* piecework quilt in the "Broken Dishes" pattern, made by Mary Elizabeth Scott McConnell of Blount County, handsewn, quilted in hearts and oak leaves, cotton filling, 1880s-1890s**.
* calico left over from construction of a dress and muslin is the best quality of the time.
** Donor believed that the quilt dated from the early Civil War period, c.1861-1863. However, quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel (of Knoxville) says that is incorrect, that the pattern "Broken Dishes" was not around yet. She dates it to 1880s-1890s.Collection
