Description

Overshot coverlet, believed to have been woven by enslaved African Americans (Grove or Senter families). Pattern is undetermined. White cotton warp; weft is navy wool, white cotton and salmon wool (white/natural, blue and salmon). (Donor described the coverlet as linsey-woolsey.) Salmon-colored commercial satin binding along one edge; made as blanket. Two panels, with center seam; panels don't match. Handwoven. Mid-19th century.
