a) Counterpane/bedspread, cotton (originally white, now mainly tan on both sides*), Bolton style, machine woven, center medallion surrounded by field of diamond shapes and feather-and-floral sprays, square corners, 5"w machine-made knotted/tasseled fringe border on tape applied with chain stitch on three sides, 96"h x 76"w including fringe, manufacturer unknown, date unknown/probably first half of 19th century. b) Tassel * May be result of chemical reaction between cotton and lye.
