Description

Iron tongs with long handles and small grips. Two pieces, joined at pivot joint by a single nail. Likely used to hold small embers from which one could light a pipe, candle, or other small object before the widespread use of matches. Believed to have originated in Greene County in the first half of the 19th century/1840s?
