Description

.7 Tray, extra silver plate, oval with ornate open handles at each end, beaded border, two machine-turning borders of Greek key and swirl, top engraved with "SULLIVAN"* under etching of steam engine with cow catcher on front and "E. T. & VA. R. R." on side of tender, inscribed "Presented to [in script] / J. B. Hoxsie Esqr. Supt. [Old English] / by the Employees of the [script] / E.T. & Va. R.R. [script] / as a testimonial of esteem / July 4th, 1866 [script]," reverse bears attached metal tag at top center edge marked "ROGERS & BRO. [with star at either end] / EXTRA PLATE / WATERBURY CT.," marked "5010" with star above, engraved "G. H. Smith / Jeweler / Knoxville, Tenn." at right side, manufactured by Rogers & Bro. (Waterbury, Conn.), 29"w x 18 1/2"d, 1866. Appears original manufacturer's name is rubbed out; attached metal tag shows Rogers & Bro.
