Four-poster bed from Lawson D. Franklin home, perhaps slave made (per family legend), 1830s. a) Headboard, four four-sided tapering posts (2"w at top to 4"w at bottom), paneled headboard with roughly oval hand-cut scroll (two separate right and left pieces with folded center medallion, metal rod through rail slot, 60"h x 58 1/4"w x 4 1/8"d. (left of first unit) b) Footboard - top rail copies on smaller scale side columns, stretcher below/straight piece with scroll on either side copies sideboards (same curve to both), 58"h x 58 1/4"w x 4"d. (left of first unit) c-f) 4 lathe-turned finials that top posts, 9 1/4"h x 3 1/ diam. each. g-h) 2 rails, 10 3/4"h x 74 1/4"w x 1 1/2"d each. i-m) 5 slats, one appearing to be original, 55 1/2" x 4 1/2"w x 3/4"d.
