Description

Mess kit (two piece) with three utensils of Ralph Freels, metal, 2 1/4"h X 6 3/4"w x 8 1/2"d, World War II/1941-1945. a) Frying pan base, flattened oval, riveted handle attaches at one edge and swings over to hold top in place, manufactured by E.A.CO (USA). "Sgt Ralph Freels WWII" handwritten in magic marker by donor's father. b) Dish lid, flattened oval with D-ring* riveted to one end, divided into two sections with long depression in middle (in which handle rests for storage). c) Fork, silver plate, hole near handle end, stamped "U.S.," 7 1/2"l x 1 1/8"w. d) Knife, aluminum, hole near handle end,* stamped "L.F.&C. 1944" on top side and "U.S." on reverse, 7 1/2"l x 1"w. e) Spoon, silver plate, hold near handle end,* stamped "U.S.," 7 1/2"l x 1 1/2"w. * Lid and utensils slide onto handle allowing all to be dipped at one time into hot water for cleaning.
