Description

Quilt made by Ruth Booth Grammar, "Oak Leaf and Reel" pattern, hand pieced and hand quilted, nine blocks with alternating applique blocks (incorporating reverse applique) and quilted blocks that repeat the applique pattern, red four-leaf clover shaped applique with four dark-tan oak leaves forming square applied to cream backing, plain squares quilted in same design, two-piece backing sewn down center, thin batting, 80"l x 67"w, 1870-1900 (per quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel, based on fabric color). Believed to be older than 2009.18.2. Representative of a yeoman farmer's family/a middle class family.
