Description

Family tree quilt designed and made by Nell Elizabeth Hall Sexton and representing the direct descendnets of of the son of William Henry Hall and Helen Inez Anniss Hall (who immigrated to the U.S. in 1872), pieced with applique and embroidery, cream background with large brown tree with oval green leaves embroidered with names of family members, "HALL" worked in fancy captial letters in band under tree, small red/white/blue rectangles to indicate military service (with branch of military named), applique of St. Anne's Church in Sale/near Manchester (where first Hall child to come to America was christened), appliqued and embroidered coat of arms for Trafford (fist and unicorns)/Nottingham (ragged cross, castle, and stags-on left)/Lincolnshire (on right)/South Kesteven District Council (Borour of Grantham, Borough of Grantham, Borough of Stamford, bourne Urban District, South and West Kesteven Rural Districts) copied from English brochures, leaf pattern from tree echoed in border/vine design encircling tree and background quilting, sewn signature (Nell Sexton) and date (1984) at lower right front corner, brown binding, queen size/90 1/2"h x 83"w, 1984. Crest on the main scion of the tree - Sale, Cheshire, last residence of Will and Helen Hall before immigration. Crest to left - City of Nottingham, previous residence of Hall/Anniss family. Crest to immediate right - Grantham, Lincolnshire; represents area near village of Barrowby, Linconshire, in which marriage of William and Helen Hall occurred/. Crest to far right - City of Lincolnn, represents shire of Lincoln, previous site pf baptism of George Heny (Harry) Hall, only son of William and Helen. Paired leabes indicates marrrages, offshoots. Tricolor indicates those serving in US. Armed Forces.
