Pottery inkwell of Henry Kitzmiller, earthenware, label inscribed "My Father's Ink-Stand R.C.K." [RCK = Richard Carr Kitzmiller, MD], five holes in top--large one at center, four smaller ones surrounding with small circular depressions in between, glaze over all, 2 1/4"h x 3" diam., possibly Va or Greene County, Tenn., c. 1820-1843.
NOTE: East Tennessee pottery expert Carole Wahler says that inkwells are among those pottery items that are very difficult to attribute. The only early earthenware comes from Greene County (Ripley, Kinser, Click, and Shaffer in 1820 and earlier), so if this piece was made in Tennessee, it would have come from there. Carole guesses that it might be from Virginia.Made/Created
