Quilt made by Mary Salome Smith Brown, cotton top with small Pinwheel pattern blocks, contains dress print fabrics from the late 1800s--indigos, shirtings, and brown calicos--sparsely used across surface, random layout, trademarked feed/flour/meal sacks used for backing--including examples from Tennessee River Milling Co. (Chattanooga, registered March 26, 1915, 75 lbs.), Mennel's Milling Co. (Moccasin Bend, renamed in 1917 after new ownership, 96 lbs.), and Cleveland Milling Co. (no information)/printed at Fulton Bag Co. (Atlanta), simple curved quilting design, 74" long x 66" wide, some fabrics date to 1880s, probably put together c. 1917.Collection
