Carpenter's claw hammer, two piece consisting of hand-forged head of simple design and inset tapered wood handle, head with hard-steel front set into wrought iron, two all-wood wedges at handle top spread wood into rectangular space at mid-head, all handmade/assumed by owner William Barlow Murphy, 12 3/4"h x 5 3/8"w x 1"d., date could range from 1840s-1870s/most likely post-Civil War* (one of three oldest items in Murphy collection).
