Quilt top, "Eight-Pointed Star" pattern, 50 8" pieced blocks and 45 plain blocks, stars of cadet blue, red, black and white cotton plaids and prints/dress prints, plain blocks are light (indigo) blue and white print, handsewn, cotton thread, unquilted, 2" top and bottom borders, front left corner has machine-applied, handwritten note in ink on cloth reading "From Grand Mother Kennedy [Martha Jane Armstrong Kennedy] to Lloyd R. Campbell. 1895." [Lloyd Roscoe Campbell] Hanging sleeve. For text of attached paper note written by Annie Kennedy Campbell, see 2001.63.41.1. 2/14/2002 An exhibition sleeve was sewn to the back of quilt top 2001.63.41 by the women of the Thursday Bee, a group including quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel. The women concurred that the note should be snipped from the quilt top and put on file with the other documentary notes written by Annie Kennedy Campbell. Comments by Knoxville quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel, 1/23/2002: "Wonderful array of 1890s cotton dress prints. The four are navy blue and white, red and black plaids and prints, and white with black print shirting. The date inscribed confirms the fabric age."
