White wholecloth quilt, narrow, quilted center medallion*--flower circled by swag/vines and flowers (left unstuffed, stems w/o cording)/extensive stippling, 10 stitches/inch with cotton thread, cotton front-to-back binding, cotton batting, course backing--two panels of 30" and 28", square corners, c. 1830.
* The center design is based on Indian palampore--it has a circle with 26 triangular spokes alternating with 26 oval shapes; concentric to the outside circle is an inner circle formed by lobes, a flower in each, and then another flower in the center. Pinecones or magnolia pods alternate with flowers around the perimeter. Enhanced by making it all white.
Short section of binding was folded back to view inked name. Hard to read but appears to be "Joseph Hale(?) Cog??"
