Crazy quilt composed of 36 13" x 13" blocks (6 across and 6 down), 5"-wide border along top. Blocks are random designs--mainly strips of fabric in various widths--with one block being an actual quilt design. Scrap fabrics are maroon, green, blue, brown, gray and black solids and green, maroon, red, and blue prints and plaids; mainly wool but some satin. Feather stitching in gray, pink, brown, blue, yellow, and maroon border the pieces. Rust fabric border, stitched in black at back. Japanese-inspired cotton cloth on back with over-all pattern that incorporates kimona-clad women playing an instrument, pouring teaing, holding a cup, or holding a fan, as well as peacock and dragon images; 8.5" border of cotton cloth bearing red crown, fleur-de-lis crest, and oak leaves along left side and bottom left corner. prior to Nov. 1888.
