Description

Johnston-style Confederate battle flag of the 26th Tennessee Infantry Regiment*, one layer of wool bunting, four pair of 1/2" x 9" ties spaced evenly down leading edge for attachment. The flag originally had 13 stars appliqued to each side of the blue cross, 11 remain. The end stars on the upper and lower fly arms of the cross are missing along with the fabric in these corners. There are four Battle Honors printed in black ink in 1 3/4" block letters on the obverse side of the fimbriation (2" white border along blue St. Andrew's cross): "FORT DONELSON," on the upper fimbriation of the upper hoist arm of the cross, and "CHICAMAUGA" on the lower fimbriation of that arm. On the upper fimbriation of the upper fly arm is "MURFREESBORO" (with half of the last letter missing) and on the lower fimbriation "MISSIONARY RIDGE (RIGHT WING)," with "RIGHT WING" in 3/4" letters. Appliqued to both sides of the upper quadrant in 5 1/2" cotton letters is "26th." and to the lower quadrant in 4" cotton letters in "TENN.," 1864/02/19-1865/05. * patterned after the flags issued to the Army of Tennessee during late winter and early spring of 1864
