Description

Utility quilt (with another quilt inside), Trip Around the World pattern, constructed by hand, red, brown, gray (?), black, exterior pattern is diamonds and squares, pieced, tied, back to front, wool (as from dresses, shirts), chambry (suit lining), blue-cotton print fabric can be seen inside (c. 1900), borders on three sides, square corner, cotton hand-dyed backing, heavy, batting from another quilt - c. 1890, back over front binding, twine tacked, made by Mary Douglas Hodges in Leadvale, Jefferson City, TN, c. 1920, worn condition. Fabric and dating info. from Knoxville quilt historian Merikay Waldvogel, 1/19/2003. She described quilt as "unusual" and having "personality."
