Description

Pots of flowers quilt believed made by Mary Jane Spangler Green, homemade pattern/not traditional, handsewn, cotton, six panels with white background, each contains a pot of red flowers with yellow centers and green stems and leaves, three of the six have red pots with three yellow stripes and seven yellow (green faded to yellow) dots, the other six pots have two yellow stars and seven yellow dots, border on three sides with green zig-zag stem-leaf pattern with red-and-green buds (the border pattern on one side is simpler than on the other two), yellow binding, addition of Stabiltex on weak area, white fabric backing, contemporary cloth tag attached to lower left back corner and reads "Pot of Flowers Made by Green family member, Union County, TN, c. 1850. Maker hid quilt under her dress to seem pregnant, to prevent its being taken by soldiers during Civil War raids. Owner Marilyn DeMarcus Harmon."
