.1) Bronze Star medal awarded to Pat Gilley, bronze, 1 1/2" circumscribing diam., 3/16"diam. star superimposed star at center, rays of both stars come together at center line, "HEROIC OR MERITORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT" engraved on reverse, star suspended from ribbon by rectangular metal loop with rounded corners, 2 3/8"w ribbon of stripes--white/scarlet/white/untramarine blue/white/scarlet/white, awarded 12/22/1944 (per donor).
May be awarded for bravery, acts of merit, or meritorius service/as a medal, it is awarded for merit. Acts of merit or acts of valor must be less that that required for the Legion of Merit but must nevertheless have been meritorious and accomplished with distinction. Bronze Star Medal only awarded to service members in combat who are receiving imminent danger pay. First given 2/1944.
