The moment of celebration is captured in this image as the top brass of the LADWP's Aqueduct Construction effort gather on the bridge of the Aqueduct Intake to crank open the Control Gates and christen their 24 million baby, February 13, 1913. Chief Aqueduct Engineer William Mulholland, Assistant Chief Engineer Joseph P. Lippincott and Chief Engineer Harvey Van Norman are manning the Gates. Mrs Harvey Van Norman stands ready to shatter a bottle of champagne. Others unidentified. Note water level is nearly up to bridge.Collection
