B & W digital scan of large, granite boulders excavated by Marion 60 Steam Shovel while digging Canal for Unlined Section of LA Aqueduct, Alabama Hills, Owens Valley Division. Shovel visible in background. "At places, granite boulders 10 to 20 and even 30 feet in diameter were encountered in large numbers. The steam shovels themselves were able to push boulders weighing from 8 to 10 tons out of the excavation."
