Photo of water rushing down the spillway at the Cascades during the aqueduct dedication ceremony on November 5, 1913.
Information from "William Mulholland and the Rise of Los Angeles" pg. 245:
"A stream of water began to trickle down beneath the big iron gates set in the concrete frame in the hillside. The gates ascended with painful slowness. The man at the flagpole stood inert, hearing nothing, noticing nothing, seeing nothing of the jubilant confusion about him. The stream grew into a flood, the flood into a torrent, the water boiled and seethed down the steep incline laid for it. It topped the rise immediately about the grandstand and came rushing over pell-mell."Collection
