B&W. Panamint City in Death Valley. Appears to have been taken in the 1880s. People, buildings, and mule team (center near tree?); Surprise Valley Mill and Water Company 20 Stamp mill. In 1873 silver was discovered in Surprise Canyon in the Panamint Range and the first big boom began.
