Laborers section of LA Aqueduct construction camp with white canvas tent cabins. This camp overlooks the Owens Lake when it was full of water.
Information from the LA Aqueduct Construction Annual Report, 1908: The climate along by the Aqueduct varies from the intense summer heat of the desert when the thermometer reaches 110 degrees to a temperature of 10 degrees and 20 degrees above zero in winter. The effort was made to make the lodgings comfortable in both summer and winter as far as consistent with proper economy. The bunk houses for the laborers are made to accommodate two men to the room. Each room has an outside window. The cost of these buildings is about $25 for each man housed.
