Laborers section of LA Aqueduct construction camp, distinguished by the neat, orderly rows of white canvas tent cabins. Location unknown (possibly in Olancha Division, Lone Pine to Olancha). Note the laborer sitting on porch of first tent cabin.
Information from Water and Power, by William Kahrl, page 160: With the exception of the cement plant at Monolith, where the city employed 250 men, the buildings in the camps did little to protect workers from the elements. Most structures were built of wood and canvas so they could be moved easily; only the equipment storage sheds merited corrugated iron.
